Bearded Dragon Supplies

The Bearded Dragon, known informally as Beardies, are endemic to central and eastern Australia. These medium-sized terrestrial lizards can be found in many different habitats; such as Scrubland, Semi-Arid Desert, Dry Forest, and Dry Grasslands. In the wild they are commonly found basking on a rock, logs, or fence post. In your BioActive enclosure, it is important to ensure they have a long space with plenty of room for exploration. In our Beardie enclosures we like to incorporate plenty of sandstone piles and branches for the curious creatures to climb on! Bearded Dragons have been popular in the pet trade for years, and in the BioActive world they have developed a reputation for eating just about everything you put into their enclosure! Wether it be Substrate, Plants, or Clean-up crew, these lizards may try to help themselves. This is why it's very important to choose the correct Items that wont harm these wonderful lizards!

Step by Step, what you need to create a Bearded Dragon BioActive enclosure

Step 1-  Add your Substrate!
For the Bearded Dragon, we recommend the BioActive Grassland Substrate. This Substrate was Specially formulated to maintain 30% - 70% humidity. When the recommended 2 ½” depth of substrate is used, the bottom half will retain moisture and the top will stay dry. This allows the animals to burrow and be more humid if it is desiring higher humidity.

Step 2- Plant your Plants!
Once you've added your substrate to your enclosure, you're ready to plant your plants! You can't place just any plants in your enclosure, for your Bearded Dragon, be sure to choose plants that are safe for them to eat! Bearded Dragons aren't picky and will test most plants you place in their BioActive enclosure. Because of this, many people opt to place fake plants in their enclosures. We do not recommend adding fake plants into your enclosure; they can introduce harmful chemicals and microplastics into your enclosure. We don't dissuade our beardies from munching down on their plants; in fact, we encourage it! Choosing plants such as Rosemary, Thyme, Oregano, Aloe, Microgreens, Hawthornia, Elephant bush, Australian Astroturf, Dwarf Mondo Grass, and many more listed below! When designing your enclosure, it should look something like the graphic.=>

Step 3- Place your leaf litter
We recommend using leaf litter in your enclosure! It provides a living space and hiding spot for your clean-up crew, enrichment and burrowing opportunities, and can help retain humidity in your enclosure. We recommend Valley oak, Red oak, Sweet Gum, or Palm leaf litter.

Step 4- Add your Clean-Up Crew
For Bearded Dragon enclosures, we recommend an Arid Clean-Up crew. Some arid species we recommend for your bearded dragons enclosure are Darkling beetles, Powder orange Isopods, Arid Springtails, Giant Canyon Isopods, and Buffalo Beetles.
*Be sure to place a moisture or multiple moisture sources for your clean-up crew, this can be moistened sphagnum moss placed under hides, rocks, and water bowls!

Step 5- Apply your decor
Depending on your tank's layout, you can mix up the steps and add in your wood and rocks whenever it makes sense for your build. For your Bearded Dragons enclosure, we highly recommend items for your Bearded Dragon that they can fully lay out on and bask! Items we recommend for your bearded dragon enclosure are Grapewood hides, Red Sandstone, Sandblasted Manzanita or Ghost wood, Onyx, Spiderwood, Tan Sandstone, Cork oak, Aged wood, and so much more!
