This Philodendron goes by many names sweetheart plant, Philodendron Hederaceum, and heartleaf philodendron. This tropical vine gets its name from the heart-shaped emerald leaves that adorn its vines. Originating in South and Central America, this beautiful vine finds itself at home amongst the trees. This plant is a tree climber and attaches to its host epiphytically, meaning it needs very little soil to grow! This growing behavior makes it ideal for vivariums that have a barebacking waiting for a climber like this one. This tropical vine likes to be placed in a substrate that has decent drainage and likes to get a decent amount of water. Make sure your plant isn’t sitting in standing water; this could lead to root rot. Due to its faster-growing nature, this Philodendron will need to be pruned back every so often, but don’t fret. This can be completely beneficial to your vivarium aesthetic. The pruning will cause the plant’s growth to turn bushy rather than being a true vine, and with those cuttings, you can propagate and create new plants from your old ones.
Important to note:
-When Planting: If you will be using this plant in a vivarium setting with animals, we recommend that all of the soil the plant comes with be washed off prior to placing the new plant in your vivarium. That way, you will not accidentally bring any unwanted invertebrates into your setup.
-With Pets: We do not recommend placing this plant in a vivarium with an animal that eats plants. Philodendrons can be toxic to animals and humans.
-Cold Weather: If you live where the weather will be cold and frosty upon arrival, we recommend contacting us in advance so we can add a heat pack to your shipment. If you choose not to add the heat pack and your plant arrives damaged from the weather, no refund will be given.
