String of Turtles (Peperomia prostrata) is a small, trailing epiphyte native to the rainforests of Brazil, where it grows along the forest floor like ground cover and climbs mossy trees in humid, shaded environments. Known for its round, patterned leaves that resemble turtle shells, this plant thrives in bright, indirect light as a houseplant or very bright LED lighting within an enclosure. Recommended temperatures between 65–80°F and humidity levels ranging from 50–80%. It’s a slow-growing species that prefers well-draining soil and consistent moisture without being waterlogged. Completely non-toxic to reptiles, amphibians, and mammals, it’s an excellent choice for tropical and arboreal bioactive setups—especially for smaller species like dart frogs, mourning geckos, crested geckos, and tree frogs.

Its compact, vining growth adds visual interest without taking up much space, making it both functional and beautiful in live vivarium environments.

This plant comes in a 3" pot.
